We would have sold the parts

April 30th, 2008

We have been trying to get rid of the junk car before moving to IL, but it has not been an easy task. Prices for used cars are crappy. A few potential buyers have looked at the car, tested it, but their offers were too low for us to let go!

No way we are going to sell the car for a dime, we would have gotten higher price selling the parts to the midwest auto recycling! Worse comes to worse, we would just keep the car at my parents’ house, so that we can have a car to use whenever we come back to visit my parents next time.

Hope of doing direct consular filing dashed

April 29th, 2008

Though the officer at the consulate agreed to allow us to do a direct consular filing to expedite the immigration process in view of my medical condition. However, the big boy needs to return here to file the papers!

They are willing to waive the residency requirement on humanitarian ground, but the big boy is not open to the idea. He insists that he won’t be able to get time off from work. He won’t even consider talking to his boss about it. Sigh…

escape from nags of a mom

April 28th, 2008

Younger brother was home yesterday, he hasn’t been home for a couple of months. He doesn’t come home that often. Personally, I think it has to do with mom always nagging and nick-picking him. Mom always complain younger brother didn’t like to wear the pants she bought for him. At least he is not wearing skirts or wearing the Asgi shoes.:-)

It’s difficult for parents to not show favoritism, but mom will never admit she has been partial. She only nags and nick-picks on my younger brother and I, not the other siblings. There was a period of my life that I seldom come home too. It’s just too much to take when you have to hear the same complaints all the time, you will be just glad that you can finally escape from it. I can emphasize with my younger brother.

There is no free lunch

April 28th, 2008

My late grandmother used to say: you learn new things everyday even if you are 100 years old (and she lived till 92 years old). I learned a hard lesson this weekend.

Do not sign up for hosting plan with “free” domain, buy your own domain! The free domain is not registered under your name. So when you decide to switch to another host, you will have to go through hell to get the current registrar to approve the transfer. They would not approve the transfer immediately, and that mean your site will be down for about a week!

Buying a laptop

April 28th, 2008

We or I have wanted to get a laptop computer for quite some time, but we were undecided, debating about whether to get a laptop or a desktop. We finally decided to get a laptop since I will be traveling back and forth next year and may stay for a few months.

I did a little research online just now and found a Dell Inspiron 1525 with all the configurations we need for slightly less than $900. I emailed the link to the big boy, he is going to make the purchase!
